Chained Beasts full release: date, price, and roadmap

Chained Beasts full release is live on Steam at $12.99. See co-op features, afflictions, Very Positive reviews, and the post-launch roadmap.

The arena gates opened on October 15, 2026, and the Chained Beasts full release is already pulling co-op groups into a messy Roman gauntlet. If you sampled the demo, or you want a party roguelike that is funny and mean in the same fight, the Chained Beasts full release is the build that shows what Featherweight Games actually shipped. Three days later, Steam shows a Very Positive score, the launch discount is still up, and a public roadmap covers the next several months.

Buying in week one is a timing question, not just a hype question. The discount ends October 29. A December content update is already on the calendar. Groups that play once a week can enjoy version 1.0 now. Groups that clear a roguelike in a single weekend should know where the variety thins out before they spend.

What the Chained Beasts full release includes

Featherweight Games developed and published the game. The pitch is a 1–4 player co-op gladiator roguelike: stay chained to your friends, turn the arena into a weapon, live with the injuries you accept, and convince a bloodthirsty crowd you deserve to leave. The launch post is more specific than that poster line.

The store lists single-player, online co-op, shared and split-screen co-op, cross-platform multiplayer, Remote Play Together, Family Sharing, Steam Cloud, and 60 achievements. Controllers are recommended. Same-screen co-op needs at least one gamepad. English includes full audio. Eleven other languages cover interface text and subtitles only: French, Italian, German, Japanese, Korean, Brazilian Portuguese, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Latin American Spanish, Russian, and Turkish.

A full run is nine fights across three acts, then a last encounter. Ten difficulty levels raise the pressure. You can unlock eight beasts, plus variants that change stats, abilities, and cosmetics. The skill list passes 70, the shop passes 40 items, and the affliction list passes 70. People coming from the demo were told to expect new beasts, arenas, weapons, injuries, modes, and progression on top of what they already knew.

The Chained Beasts full release also closes a long detour. Co-director Tim Kaldor has said this was the first game the team tried to make, roughly twelve years before launch. It began as a 48-hour jam called Enterchained, sparked by chained fighters in the movie Gladiator. They stretched that jam into a real project, then parked it after about six months because the studio was not ready.

When they picked it up again, they pushed four-player chain chaos and kept the hits harsh enough to feel like a hardcore party game. Co-director Dylan Bevis has credited beta and demo players with finding the funny version of the injury system, cutting afflictions that were only unpleasant, and simplifying co-op moments groups kept misunderstanding. Version 1.0 is a finished recovery of an old idea. The roadmap treats it as a base, not a finale.

How chains, bosses, and afflictions change a run

Fights are top-down and physical. You cut, you throw a weapon, and you misuse the set. An urn can be the projectile, or the enemy can be the projectile. Spike walls and snake pits punish bad positioning. Throw your last blade and the next exchange is a scramble. Bosses are billed as arena celebrities who start with better gear and a stacked crowd. Beating them is how a run inches toward Rome, freedom, or payback.

The chain is the co-op rule everything else hangs on. Miss the timing and the group wraps a pillar. Land the timing and you clothesline the wave instead. Community reports already ask whether the links simulate enough physics to knot two or three friends around a post on purpose. Official copy promises cruel, creative chaining and pillar tangles. It does not publish a physics spec, so coordination matters even if you never get a perfect knot.

Learning that trio of weapons, rooms, and chains is what makes the Chained Beasts full release click past the first boss. Injuries are the other difficulty knob, and they do not work by only inflating enemy health. When you heal between rounds, you accept a drawback.

Ahead of launch, the studio highlighted three afflictions demo players had not met. Annoying makes nearby allies more likely to swing at you. Impulsive forces a skill choice every second level and a purchase in every shop, even when you wanted to save. Infatuated locks the camera onto one ally and grants about 10 percent more damage while that ally is looking at you.

The same note listed names and dared players to guess: Separation Anxiety, Bad Vibrations, Butterfingers, Narcissism, Gambling Problem, and Nerve Damage. Those effects are not documented in the posts, so treat the names as teasers until a run reveals them.

AfflictionWhat is actually known
AnnoyingAllies often attack you if you stand too close
ImpulsiveA skill locks in every second level, and every shop forces a buy
InfatuatedCamera follows one ally; about +10% damage while they look at you
Far-Sighted plus Near-SightedPlayer experience: near and far vision both blur; friends nicknamed the leftover band "Bagel-Vision"
Colorblind, dropped weapons, lost limbs, constant firePlayer experience from a 7.3-hour review, from a nuisance to a run-ender
Named but unexplainedSeparation Anxiety, Bad Vibrations, Butterfingers, Narcissism, Gambling Problem, Nerve Damage

Player experience matches that "you chose this" framing. After 7.3 hours, one reviewer described the fun as staying stronger than your handicaps. A blind eye might be the price of one more level. A missing toe might be the price of a full heal, and that toe makes sprints trip. Another player, 1.9 hours in, won a round they could barely see and still recommended the game. Misery is a build choice, and friends will narrate it.

A few habits make the first clears less random:

  • Heal when the next room can end the run, not every time the bar dips.
  • Keep a second weapon in hand before you throw.
  • Pick one caller for chain direction so four people are not hauling opposite ways.
  • Swap beasts between runs. Variants change stats and abilities, which matters once shops start to repeat.
  • Climb difficulties expecting more enemies and harsher rules, not a second campaign. That is how the detailed early review described the ladder.

Launch price, bundles, and what your PC needs

Most people will meet the Chained Beasts full release through the launch discount, not through a bundle. List price is $19.99. The introductory cut is 35 percent, which brings it to $12.99, and the store listing said that offer ends October 29, 2026. Regional prices differ, so confirm the timer on the Chained Beasts page on Steam before you pay.

BundleListed comparison pricePrice shown at launchNotes

A bundle is a good cart only if you wanted the other game anyway. The standalone sale is already large. The studio also said more bundles were coming, without naming them.

The demo remained available beside the paid game, which is the right test for a couch group. Blood sprays stay on the ground after hits. That is the official mature-content line, and it is worth a mention before a family session even though the tone is closer to slapstick than horror.

Early reviews and what players argue about

Early notes on the Chained Beasts full release are louder than the percentage alone suggests, but the percentage is the anchor. On October 18, 2026, the purchaser score sat at Very Positive: 82 percent of 390 reviews. A broader cut on the same page, counting copies from outside Steam, showed 419 reviews, 346 positive and 73 negative. Thirty-one curators had also written something, but those pieces are not folded into the 82 percent.

Around the same days, the community hub displayed about 2,454 players in-game. Treat that as a moment-in-time hub figure, not a recorded peak.

The 7.3-hour positive review is the most useful early length estimate: a strong 10 to 15 hours solo, longer in multiplayer, with repeating afflictions and shop stock as the main complaint. Higher difficulties, in that player's account, mostly add a few mechanics plus tougher and more numerous enemies. At the sale price they still called it worth the money. That is one experience inside a Very Positive pool, so use it as a planning note, not a verdict.

The clearest mechanical gripe is unlock credit. A player at 3.3 hours said sessions with friends were genuinely good, then withheld a recommendation until challenge rewards count for the whole party. Their case was a Rhino outfit that goes to whoever lands the Rhino kill on the first boss, not to the friends who set it up.

A full group might need extra clears so everyone unlocks it. They said a developer responded, and that they would flip the review after a fix. Nothing in the launch-week sources confirms the rule has already changed. If matching cosmetics are the point of your Thursday night, read patch notes before you farm that fight four times.

Other community reports split along familiar lines. Some players argue the meta layer is thin: beast unlocks and loadouts, not permanent upgrades such as sharper claws or a stronger horn charge. Others want an automated cross-platform queue so strangers can fill a lobby. Cross-play with friends is on the feature list. A public matchmaker is not, and the roadmap does not promise one.

Separate threads ask whether two players on one PC and two on another can share a four-player online session, and whether couch co-op is enough if you never go online. Official posts do not settle those answers. The safe plan is a premade group of up to four, with a pad for each person on the shared screen.

What the post-launch roadmap actually promises

Three days before launch, Featherweight answered the obvious question: what happens after 1.0? The note is a plan. Several lines are intentions, not dates carved into a patch.

WindowPlanned additionHow it was worded
October 15, 2026Full 1.0 launchDone
December 2026Update 1.1 with a new arena, a new boss, a new weapon, and new enemiesDescribed as planned
Q1 2027PvP so you can fight friends, plus a batch of skills and afflictions"We'd like to add"
After PvPMore acts, skills, afflictions, beasts, variants, and cosmeticsGuided by player requests; no date

December is the first scheduled reply to "I have seen these shop items before." A new arena and boss will not double a 10-to-15-hour solo estimate by themselves, but they are real content, not only a balance pass. Friend PvP in early 2027 means combat against people you know. It is not the stranger queue some players requested. Extra acts, if they follow, would do more for campaign replay than another stack of afflictions alone.

The pre-launch post also cited about 200,000 wishlists. That is a developer figure from before the gates opened. It explains why a small studio talked so openly about reviews. It is not a concurrent-player stat. Use the hub's in-game count, and your own group's fun, instead.

A practical order if you buy this week: learn chain calls on a standard run, take a second beast up a higher difficulty, then pause the "is there enough here?" argument until 1.1. You will have used the modes, skills, and injuries the Chained Beasts full release actually contains, without grading the game on a December arena that is not in the build yet.

FAQ

Is the Chained Beasts full release different from the demo?

Yes. The launch note lists new beasts, arenas, afflictions, weapons, modes, and progression beyond the demo. The shipping structure is nine battles in three acts, a final encounter, eight beasts with variants, more than 70 skills, more than 40 items, and more than 70 afflictions, across 10 difficulty levels.

When does the launch discount end?

The store showed $19.99 cut to $12.99, a 35 percent introductory offer ending October 29, 2026. Gang Beasts, Cult of the Lamb, and LORT bundles were discounted at the same time. Check Steam before you buy, because that timer will not extend itself.

Does local co-op work without buying four copies?

Same-screen and split-screen co-op are listed features, with a cap of four players total, so one copy can host the couch if you have the pads. Online friends use their own copies through cross-play or Remote Play Together. Budget one gamepad per person on the shared screen. The store's launch line was to grab up to three friends, which matches a party of four, not five.

Should you wait for Update 1.1?

Buy now if you want the sale price and your group likes harsh co-op comedy. Waiting is reasonable if you need a Verified Steam Deck label, party-wide challenge unlocks, or another arena before the first session. Update 1.1 is planned for December 2026. Friend-versus-friend PvP is aimed at the first quarter of 2027 and is not in the game today.
